fLUnKnhaXYU
hello Im fLunKnhaXYU , howya doin , Its so quiet in here that I just wanted to hit the "General Discussins" with some advice to new lovers and general chatbot type stuff . Now I know its General Discussins , which in theory should exclude politics and yes torque3d too , but this is not about torque3d as a subject , per say , it is about the condition of the torque3D community and Where is it ? have they given up and gone in search of a more fun hang-out ? would anyone care to step up with some of what they feel should be clarification of that sitchy . some comments concerning lack of comradery and a strong desire to party down with the strong community focused on the success of the freeware that is lacking only a organizad total takeover commitment and scheduling processes . I sincerely anticipate any responses . its not too difficult and I know it . Thank you so much and have a nicey special thanks to: codes duis jesto moralys and myself (the only member to view my latest "how do i do" post in 2 days) for impeccable commitment any lurking essential GRU including any future asset GRU . or whatever its called I remind you this post complys with the unversal and typical General Dicussins Guidelines . Code_Man
Well since duion doesnt actively work on ubergame i would basically try to fill that spot with rad alert in a way as main presentation game. First off its on the most up to date stable engine and has awesome 1k *pbr(metalmap and roughmap still will need tweaking) materials for almost everything. Its hardly perfect but it runs smoothtly and stable, the infantry combat is quite refined by now the weapons are coming along too finely. Over time i will port way more stuff including some of what duion provided, so people can use and backport the stuff nicely. It also includes packages of a project i call terapack, which is basically a collection of high def outdoor materials(2d and 3d), suitable for any level editing needs in a few plugable packages. Everything is cc0/mit x11/pd too and it has everything packaged as neatly as possible so far, it will be a long way to finish but its fanastic content for any fps needs. Progress on the maps slowed down a bit, but im just low on energy and not much more is needed, early february should be a realistic goal for the infantry demo. The ranger race will also be slipped in so a light vehicle demo will be in too plus the classic el alamein with the prebuilt bases for visual showcase purposes. Once i get a little more settled il develop tools both in t3d and light scripts outside of it, such as a packager i work on with which i will deploy with. fLUnKnhaXYU
Im not complaining , Lots of people have helped me very much . I am struggling to understand why so little is going on around here (forums). there are constantly new people joining but no one participates . new people with no questions ? Even if there was a complete documentation , and , I think 3.10 was rather good , It seems some one would care to comment on the experience with the new engine , at least . and thats not touching on curious people who stumble onto a MIT AAA 3D game engine . Im not going to press you to respond I know youre busy with the tech side o' things but surely Im not the only person . and Code_Man , Im enjoying watching your progress with your project and want mooooore . bsisko
I cannot speak for everyone, but I can defend myself. I am sort of a gigolo when it comes to game engines. My preferred choice of the Torque engines is TGE 1.4/5, of which my commercial project that I am working on is a game called Johnny Trouble. This afternoon, I just read JeffR's workblog on the new updates to T3d. I like what read, and decided that I should spend more time learning the new engine as well. However, I do not feel that I am qualified to answer/solve many of the perplexing questions that many users (new or otherwise) post, which is why I do not pretend to know all the answers. Secondly, I also work with the Godot 3d engine which I have two projects working on at the moment. one of which may take me five years to complete. My main reason for choosing this engine is that projects can be imported to consoles. Furthermore, between Unreal, Unity, Cryengine, and O3DE, it is the only engine that I could download to my current system. (Windows 8.1) Though when I do upgrade within the next two years, I will be looking into Cryengine and o3DE and choosing one of those for my ""AAA"" games. (yeah, yeah, I know that one man cannot develop an AAA game. UBIsoft and Bethesda have how many employees) Thirdly, besides this forum I also hang out in the Godot forums, the syntaxbomb forums, the o3DE forums, and I do a lot of web crawling. After all that, the retro computing bug has bit me, so I have a couple of projects going on for the commodore 64, the zx spectrum. And I recently invested in the Raspberry PI scene. I currently own an Raspberry PI 400. I just recently saw an Raspberry 500 for under $200 at a microcenter dealership. That has detoured my plans for a couple of weeks. I hope this response has given you some insight to at least why I do not respond to your requests, or spend time here in the forums. Hey, have a good day, and a swell year. What are you working on? What do you need help with?
fLUnKnhaXYU
Bsisko , indeed I have gained some Insight as to why some of the more important members here seem a bit inactive (on the forums) . the anti-caveat being when they do its always entertainingly useful and valuable wisdom concerning the engine though usually a bit beyond noob comprehension . more of a concern is the beginner interest and desire to make contact . Thats a much more bizarre puzzler for me .
bsisko
Which version of the engine are you currently working with? TGE 1.4/1.5 TGEA T3D 4.0 T3D 4.1 T3D 4.3 As for me, I have copies of 1.5. The 1.4 version I had got infected with malware, so I had to remove it from my system. This is indeed my fav and the one I use 80% or the time. I am learning the ins and outs of T3D 4.0. I have 4.1 installed on my system and keep it around for debugging purposes. I just recently downloaded version 03, and am practicing using that to develop with. Code_Man
I stared with ubergame idk what engine, 3.whatever i think, i made a few maps and scripts but otherwise never got too far. Then i switched to 3.5 or something vanilla, made a few fun stuff, but that never got anywhere much neither. About around 3.9 i think or so i found the red alert models made by allen at ppm and got those fit in just perfect. When then 4.0 prev cant remember got around i switched to that, which was quite good too. Then i had pc troubles and switched os and stuff and couldnt run 4.0.1 for a long time and around 4.0.3 got that. The switch from 4.0 prev to 4.0.3 was a major one and quite missamanged, but in the end worth it. I like how 4.0 handles stuff and its very reliable and stable, there are seriours regressions that one can fall into if not aware, but ultimatle it works quite well. It was a major learning experinence for me, but things arranged themselfs so well now so i keep going ahead. Btw idk if there are any thoughts to my idea of making rad alert the headlining game for 4.0, all the assets are mit x11/cc0/pd so theres no issues with that and there are no assets from westwood in there. Still need to fix the maps and want to do some stuff on the side but its in satisfying mostly in with some minor things aside.
Sempiternam
Sorry if anyone could be touched by this comment... I just understand the topic of this post. I know some of us want Torque 3D to be more accepted by programming community, even between those who just want to learn a fun way to create their game projects. I am one of those who want to create the programming, model/animation, sound/music, gameplay and what a game needs to be what I want. This is almost impossible if all of the content is for a big rigid multiplayer game. So, if I want to create some of my own projects to share with all the people on the web I must use some basic resources first. I just need to edit any music, use some common sound fx, take some models I can fit in and programming a lot to do a simple but enjoyable 3D game. Torque 3D is my gear and my challenge, this is it just because I want it to be like that. I just want this 3D engine to be where I make each of my dreams to come true. Thanks to you friends. fLUnKnhaXYU
I certainly do appreciate you responding , It is empowering as I wiggle along on the digital plane . you might not realize what a dry sponge might absorb from the most innocent of testimony . experience speaks louder than words , I guess . One thing is kinda sticking out here though Its seems all of you have the nifty projects happening now but , who knew ? to be fair , you might think , who cares , right ? Code_Man , your project would be like a lighthouse for Torque3D , who could underestimate such a great idea . It also rekindles interest in the dare I say it old abandoned <- right? games . a bit unimaginable a few years ago . and what is there to compete with your idea ? There should be at least one challenger to this notion ! AYE MARY AYE roll the tape of the MYTH VICTORY CLANGINS! ok . order , order , ... BTW Code_Man Im anxious to see some of the working stuff . Im playing around with 4.03 as of this week . I had the demo versions of 1.2 (HAILZ) , 1.52 (), 1.7 , 3.9 4.0 4.01 . REAlly really like them all , thus my perplexin' . I guess its boiling down to .. and .. well .. Im not going to be askeered and just say it . a noob friendly project with a couple easy buttons and tooltips . there . dont ferget ITS MY IDEA ! ALL MINE !! AHA AH MUHAHAHAHA ! have a good ol'day . . and thanks , really ,... really ,... really .

JeffR
As Az said, easier to do rapid discussions on the discord, so that's where a lot of the attention gravitates, but there's merit in a more structured, topic'd discussion on the forums, certainly as well. That said, I'm a bit lost as to what the main topic for this thread is. Is it mostly just checking to see how people are doing/what they're working on?
