assimp - will it merge vertices that i dnt want it too ?

AI tells me that assimp can merge vertices that are in identical location and things , great , what if I do not want it to ? ...and thank you so much you are so butch .

That only happens if the codebase has optimization flags turned on. That's not the case by default.
