Little reminder: Übergame is still seeking contributors, it was always meant as an open source community project, so I post it here as a sticky thread, to remind people of that. So many people contacted me claiming to want to contribute, but then they all ran away doing nothing, but actually doing stuff is not that hard, for example I made a level in my third Steam trailer in like 10 minutes, including playtesting, it cannot get much easier than that. Sure making a final release still takes some more time testing, cleaning up and packing for release, but I think you get the idea. I did not go the Steam Workshop route, because I think I can integrate the stuff just as well directly into the original game, people just need to actually do stuff and be able to communicate with me and if it is halfway decent I can integrate it. That way people do not have to worry about installing additional things etc. If you want to create new gamemodes or have suggestions to change things, I'm also open to that. Why should you contribute to Übergame? Well this is probably something for people who do not want to develop a full game, but just want to play around a bit, like create a level and instantly play it or prototype a function and test them in a full game. I also offer help in explaining how to do stuff, I'm an expert artist and amateur scripter. Even if you should decide to create your own game later, you can just "steal" things from Übergame, that's the benefit of open source, there hardly is any drawback. I'm a bit busy with other things now like real life and maintaining my projects, so I could use some help, I did not plan to always do everything myself all the time, for that such a game project is too complex. Ignore the people talking negative about me like calling me troll etc, I mean do you seriously think I spend thousands of hours of work into creating free stuff for everyone just to troll people? People just hate and disrupt others, because they never achieve anything on their own, which makes them jealous. This is all a vicious cycle you can only break out by actually doing anything, all the talking is irrelevant, does not matter if it is "positive" or "negative", the only person who is right is the doer.

@NekoDemon117 No I'm just trying to prevent people here from wrecking everything. Discord is a hostile corporate takeover and you should not go along with it, especially not as an open source project and especially not without asking anyone and especially not making it the only exclusive communication platform. I mean how often am I supposed to repeat my arguments? Are you not able to process logic reasoning?
-
No you don't get the best of both worlds, this is totally irrational, you are just extending the data harvesting to infect open source platforms as well, so you are making it worse overall. He also does not have any game packs on Opengameart, most of his stuff is from other people, he just uploaded it and even most of the few things he made are unfinished prototypes, but he does not even pretend that it is his stuff, he correctly names the authors who made the stuff he uploaded, you just failed to read.

This looks pretty amateurish, but it reminds me that I wanted to release the source files for my fully game ready model I use in Uebergame. Well at least you tried, I was too lazy so far to clean up my source files for release and/or writing a tutorial. Making a fully gameready player character is probably the hardest task in game development, so we could really need a tutorial for it, since there is none so far.
-
I never said that, you made that up in your head and falsely accused me of it, so you are at fault here, that's why I say imaginary issue. The discussion was about Discord and how it would be infectious for other services to Bridge them to Discord at no point I talked about other communities at all, I only made a comment about a certain person that is stalking me and calling me names like troll and telling everyone how bad I'm supposedly are, even though he is not a game developer or Torque user, so his intention is clearly not to be helpful in any way to our community. I joined that community because I thought I could find like minded people and/or other game developers, so far I have met zero of them, so you are trying to appeal to a community that brought forth not a single active game developer using Torque3D or contributing in any way to our community or project. They do not even seem to care about the open source philosophy anymore by trying to bridge Discord to open source services.

The location of the script does not matter, it can be anywhere, you only have to worry about the execution order so that the script is available where you want it. For example I don't write any scripts in the .gui files or at least try to and instead create a playgui.cs file where I place the scripts.

@marauder2k9 You still did not make any argument, you just quoted something unrelated to his topic and said nothing on your own. I can explain you once more, if you cannot understand what I wrote: I only made an argument why I don't want to be part of a certain community and why bridging Discord is even more stupid than using Discord itself. I did not insult anyone even though I was insulted to be a troll. If you cannot even distinguish the offender from the victim you are either insane or corrupt, or both. Therefore your efforts to supposedly better things that were not bad, are undermined by corruption to begin with.

@Jason Campbell The nonexistent issue is that Jeff thought I said something negative that I did not say. So the initial reason Jeff wrote this thing here only exists in his imagination, therefore it is nonexistent.
-
Nobody is treating newcomers poorly here, you are trying to fix nonexistent issues with illogical methods.

How is a code of conduct supposed to do anything in regards of achieving a higher audience? I'm pretty sure it will do absolutely nothing in that regard, if anything it will rather reduce the audience since it adds more artificial restrictions and banning of people which will further reduce the possible audience.
-
Why? You did not make any argument. I can also easily disprove your statement, for example we do not need the audience of spammers, so in that case a smaller audience minus the spammers is far better. Yes and if they do not belong here we can tell them to leave or do you want this place overrun with spammers? What are we supposed to do to spammers etc? Invite them all in and encourage them to destroy our community?
-
It is a really bad idea to do something like this. I mean just after the big scandal of the Code of Conduct for Linux, which almost destroyed the Linux project, you try to do the same mistake here. Basically all the points in the code are subjective interpretation and therefore are as good as no code of conduct at all. Additionally all the points have nothing to do with our project or what we are supposed to be doing here and this is work together and get things done. If it is only about being nice to each other, nothing ever will get done, as I have observed in communities that already employ such code of conducts. I know you try to be nice in order to grow the community and such, but this does not work. As far as I know the number of people that came to our community from those politically correct other communities is zero and those who came are not users for Torque or game developers at all, but instead are just here to advertise their own things to gain members from this community and therefore are trying to make our community shrink. Therefore it is a really really bad idea to appeal to such an audience, since no matter how it turns out, there is nothing to be gained for us.
-
Well you should at least have read the initial thread so you know what it is about. I explained my arguments already so you better read them before you answer. It is not about dogmatism at all.

I cannot run the precompiled on Windows7 it gives me the error "D3DCOMPILER_47.dll is missing"

@JeffR "Infection" was meant metaphorically and it was related to Discord. I explain it for you once again in a bit more detail, if you don't understand the short reference: You don't solve the Discord problem by bridging other services to it, since that makes it even worse than using Discord itself, since you infect other services with the problems that Discord brings and you end up with using two services that are as bad as Discord, since everything is now routed through it. It is like a hostile takeover where the liberal platform gets taken over by the non liberal one. Just learn to read, I did not talk about anything you think I was talking about. You now wrote a Code of Conduct because of a nonexistent issue, great job.

@Julius This forum is for game developers using Torque3D, you are neither a game developer nor are you using Torque3D. Why would I as game developer using Torque3D want to be a member of a game development community where nobody is a game developer or using Torque3D? PS: Bridging Discord chats is even more stupid and dangerous than using Discord by itself, since you just spread the infection.

It is not so much about the game, but about psychology. If you piss people off or they think they are pissed off, they start a shitstorm and once the shitstorm is running, it hardly ever can be stopped. Most people don't even know what DRM is or what it means, so it is not about the DRM itself, but for example the limitations that it brings that may be annoying, like having to create accounts. For example I don't buy games from certain publishers anymore, since I know they will always force me to create an account and/or install their launcher in addition, which is really annoying, but that is just me. However in the end it is not about reality, but how it is perceived by people, many companies can get away with really really bad business practices, because they know psychology and invest a lot in marketing. The majority of people is not intelligent enough to really evaluate things, they just jump on the bandwagon, may it be positive or negative.

Hello 2D people, I wanted to create a list of all games made with Torque2D: https://duion.com/links/games/torque2d I already started, but Torque2D games are hard to find, so maybe you can help me out so I can complete my list. Just link me something and I will add it, but only existing games that can be played. I'm not a Torque2D user, but I wanted to create a Torque2D list as well next to the Torque3D list, for the completion sake.
-
I made a list of all existing games made with Torque3D: https://duion.com/links/games/torque3d Tell me if I missed any, I know not all of those were made exactly with Torque3D, but I list all that are made with Torque and are 3D, otherwise it would get too complicated. Also I only list existing games, meaning they have a release that can be played. I wanted to create such a list, because I could not find a complete one so far.

"Because I'm more familiar with Lua" is also a bad argument, because compare the time it would need to exchange the whole scripting language vs the time needed to learn to use a slightly different syntax. I also modded games using Lua, but I had no problems adapting to it and no problems adapting to use another scripting language, it is not really that much different also Torquescript is not so much different to C or C++. And regarding to get Brazilians to use Torque by adding their favorite language is also a logical fallacy, it most likely will not work, you should rather invest that time into marketing that will be a thousand times more efficient in that regard.
-
So that resource is obsolete?
-
"Because others do so" is not an argument. I have seen the BeamNG implementation and they added a "lua" folder next to the "script" folder and you had Torquescript and Lua in the same game making things even more complicated. We also have C# script implementation, so if you do Lua as well, we will even have 3 scripting languages instead of 1. To make my argument short: https://xkcd.com/927/

There is a resource on Garagegames.com where someone increased the performance of Torquescript: http://www.garagegames.com/community/resource/view/18045/1 I wanted to ask if this is still relevant, or if it has already been integrated and if not, if anyone has the code, since the link is dead. Maybe we can end the scripting language debate that way and tell people that it is not so much about the scripting language itself, but how it is handled in the engine, which results in different performance. Also I could imagine that the performance increase in that resource is not that relevant, since the most performance increase was in the scripts that took longer and no increase in the smaller scripts that took not so long to execute. When I tested the C# scripting implementation that was supposed to be so much faster I found out that it was only so much faster in an mostly empty scene, but in a full loaded scene it was even slower than Torquescript. However I'm no expert on that, that is why I ask here.
-
Not this again, please don't waste your time on this. If you want to do this because of performance, you should consider that performance relevant code should not be in the script language anyway, because script language is slower, does not matter which one you use. Torquescript is integrated into the engine, it would be stupid to replace it with another language, since the language itself is not going to be magically better. There was a post on Garagegames on improving Torquescript: http://www.garagegames.com/community/resource/view/18045/1 So I would suggest to spend time on optimizing the engine as it is, don't try to reinvent the wheel all the time.
-
What you need this for? It says it is for rendering, I don't know what this would be good for in a game engine. If you want to render something, you can use Blender and then export it to Torque3D.
